The Saskatoon Sports Council beleives that there is a need for youth to actively participate in a competitive team environment as it provides an opprtunity for youth to develop dicipline, dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Currently the Council offers three Learn To Sport League Opportunities.
SSC & Kinsmen Learn-to Floor Hockey League
In cooperation with the Kinsmen Hockey League and Saskatoon Community Schools, the Learn-to floor hockey league runs during months of February and March for a total of four weeks. Each Community School is assigned an experienced hockey instructor who coordinates weekly lunch hour practices and works with the team throughout the season. At the end of the 4 weeks each school team participates in a round robin tournament. Last year the tournament ran at the Hank Rhys Soccer Center. Equipment, snacks, transportation, and coaches are provided at no cost to the participants. The SSC & KHL floor Hockey League involves approximately 220-250 youth each session.
SSC Learn-to Flag Football League
In cooperation with Football Saskatchewan and Saskatoon community schools, the Learn-to flag football league runs during the months of March and April, for a total of four weeks. Each team is assigned a Football Saskatchewan instructor who coordinates weekly practices and works with the team throughout the season. At the end of the 4 weeks each school team participates in a League Jamboree, consisting of several head to head games with other community schools. Equipment, snacks, transportation, and coaches are provided at no cost to the participants. The SSC flag football league involves approximately 220-250 youth each session.
SSC Learn-to Softball League
In cooperation with Sonntag Sports Management and Saskatoon community schools, the Learn-to softball league runs during the months of May and June, for a total of four weeks. Each team is assigned an experienced coach who coordinates weekly practices and works with the team throughout the season. Each team is alotted 1 game per week with games being held at various community schools in Saskatoon. Equipment, uniforms, transportation and coaches are provided at no cost to the participants. The NSL involves approximately 220-250 youth each season.
