What is KidSport?

KidSport™ is a Children's Charity dedicated to assisting children of families facing financial obstacles to participate in community sport programs. The KidSport™ goal is to provide these children with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of teamwork, dedication and responsibility through participation in sport.

Mission

Saskatoon KidSport™ Charity provides financial assistance for children and youth from low-income families to help them to participate in sport. Children between the ages of 6-18, who are lacking the money to participate in sport, are eligible for assistance.

History:

KidSport™ was developed in 1993 by Sport B.C. and has since grown to include Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island and Sport North. KidSport™ Saskatchewan is governed by a volunteer provincial committee that is responsible for the overall policy and operations of the program in the province.

Local Fundraising Events:

In Saskatchewan, volunteer local KidSport Committees administer the program, develop fundraising initiatives, and adjudicate all funding requests. All money raised in a community stays in that community.

The Saskatoon KidSport™  Committee hosts a series of fundraising events – including their Annual KidSport™ Breakfast & Silent Auction, Mini-Golf Event, Marquis Down 50/50 Raffle and, Saskatoon Wakride Family Zone, and Peters & Pilon Celebrity Golf Tournament.

KidSport™ strives to ensure that 100 per cent of donations and fundraising proceeds are directed to KidSport™ children. This is made possible through the generous support of local and provincial sponsors. Funds raised are directed in the form of grants to individual children or to KidSport™ programs. Individual grants ranging up to $750 are available to children up to the age of eighteen. Program funding may also be available to sport organizations and youth agencies targeting KidSport™ children.

All applications are screened by each local committee to ensure the financial need and legitimacy of the applicant. KidSport™ policies require that at least one of the following individuals endorse the application: a school teacher, principal, or community school worker; a professional in social work or family services; a law enforcement officer; a member of the clergy; or a recreation administrator.
