The True Sport Movement is powered by people like
you ... athletes, coaches, officials, organizers, parents, teachers
and community leaders. People who know that sport can transform
lives and communities. People who care about the positive values
that sport embodies, like teamwork and commitment. People who want
to see sport in Canada live up to its full potential.
Children
in Sport is a program designed to ensure that children receive the
most positive experience possible from sport. The focus of this
program is on learning the fundamental skills before entering into
more competitive sports and on providing an opportunity for children
to have positive life-long experiences in sport. The focus is on
process, not outcome.
On
the Move is a National Initiative designed as an innovative programming
concept to increase opportunities for inactive girls and young women
(ages 9-18) to participate in fun filled supportive, female only,
recreational and sport and physical activity.
This website
describes a 7-stage Canadian model of Long-Term Athlete Development
(LTAD), a training, competition, and recovery program based on developmental
age — the maturation level of an individual — rather
than chronological age. It is athlete centred, coach driven, and
administration, sport science, and sponsor supported. Athletes who
progress through LTAD experience training and competition in programs
that consider their biological and training ages in creating periodized
plans specific to their development needs.
